2018 Platforms. Data. Policy

As the Digital Single Market is manifesting in regulations such as "promoting fairness and transparency for business users of intermediation services" (Platform B2B), "a framework for the free flow of non-personal data in the European Union" and "concerning the respect for private life and the protection of personal data in electronic communications" (ePrivacy), striking a balance between data protection and a thriving data economy can be difficult. Along with new developments revolving around online platforms, algorithms, artificial intelligence, voice assistants and the Internet of Things (IoT) further challenges for policy makers are likely to arise.

In this conference, we will discuss the challenges arising from over-the-top (OTT) services, online platforms and algorithms. We will elaborate on their implications for regulatory and competition enforcement. Leading experts will share their visions for the data economy in Europe.
